MORE BENCHMARKS: iMac Retina 5K
versus other Quad-Core Macs
Posted Wednesday, October 24th, 2014 by rob-ART morgan, mad scientist
We continue to test the iMac with Retina 5K Display against the fastest 'late 2013' iMac Quad-Core i7 and the 'late 2013' Mac Pro Quad-Core Xeon.
GRAPH LEGEND
4c nMP 3.7 D300s = 'late 2013' Mac Pro 3.7GHz Quad-Core Xeon; dual FirePro D300 GPUs
4c iMac 4.0 R295X = 'late 2014' iMac Retina 5K 4.0GHz Quad-Core i7; Radeon R9 M295X GPU
4c iMac 3.5 G780M = 'late 2013' iMac 3.5GHz Quad-Core i7; GeForce GTX 780M GPU
Geekbench 3
Primate Labs' cross-platform processor benchmark uses a scoring system that separates single-core and multi-core performance. Workloads simulate real-world scenarios. The overall score is an amalgam of Integer, Floating Point, and Memory performance tests. (HIGHER number means FASTEST.)
NOTE: Primate Labs posted the Geekbench 64 bit single and multi-core scores for iMac models past and present.
XPlane-10 results pulled to recheck results
Left 4 Dead 2 (on Steam)
We use the console command "timedemo" to playback a short game session. Settings were 2560x1440, Fullscreen, 4X AA, Anisotropic 8X, Vsync Disabled, Shader Detail Very High, Effect Detail and Model/Texture Detail both High, Multicore Rendering Enabled. (RED graph bar means FASTEST in Frames per Second.)
GPUtest - FurMark
This is a very intensive OpenGL benchmark that uses fur rendering algorithms to measure the performance of the graphics card. Fur rendering is especially adapted to overheat the GPU and that's why FurMark is also a perfect stability and stress test tool for the graphics card. We ran the test at 2560x1440 Windowed with anti-aliasing disabled. (HIGHER number means FASTEST in Frames Per Second.)
GPUtest - TessMark
Tessellation is the ability of the GPU to divide a polygon into smaller ones (according to the tessellation level factor) in order to increase polygons density: the higher the tessellation level, the higher the polygon density. A high tessellation level requires much GPU processing power. We chose 16 levels (usually the max that games use) at 2560x1440 Windowed with anti-aliasing disabled. (HIGHER number means FASTEST in Frames Per Second.)
INSIGHTS
The top iMac with Retina 5K Display continues to impress.
