Most of the time we test drives when they are freshly formatted and empty. But as the drive fills up and is forced to access the inner tracks, the speed drops signficantly. To simulate this condition, we created a small 10GB partition at the "end" of the drive. To dramatize the speed drop, we put the results for both empty and "full" drives in the graphs.
