In this PART TWO,
we answer two questions:
1. We know the
7200rpm notebook drive goes faster in the
Wiebetech
MicroGB800
than it does in the MicroGB+ (FW400) case. But what
about 5400rpm and 4200rpm notebook drives? Will
they go faster in a FireWire 800 case?
2. And how do
they all compare to an 3.5 inch 7200rpm Hitachi
Deskstar 180GXP drive in a Firewire 800
case?
ANALYSIS
1. Although the
Hitachi
Travelstar 7K60
makes significant gains by moving from the
Wiebetech MicroGB+ FireWire 400 case to the
Wiebetech
MicroGB800 FireWire
800,
case, the other notebook drives gained NOTHING
over the speeds registered in my
FireWire
400 enclosure tests.
2. The Toshiba
5400rpm "GAX" notebook drive is absent from this
test because it refused to work inside the Firewire
800 case. I would predict, however, that it would
gain nothing in speed if it did work.
IN CASE YOU
HAVEN'T SEEN PAGE
ONE,
IT CONTAINS MORE TEST RESULTS. It answers two
questions:
1. How much speed does the FireWire 800
notebook enclosure add to the 7K60's speed compared
to a FireWire 400 enclosure?
2. And how do those two compare to putting
the 7K60 drive inside a PowerBook G4/800
Titanium?
