BARE FEATS LAB - real world Mac speed tests

Four USB 3.1 Gen2 Ports + Four USB 3.1 Gen2 SSDs = 2000MB/s

Angelbird sent us four SSD2go PKT bus powered USB 3.1 Gen2 drives. Since our 'late 2016' MacBook Pro has four USB-C ports that support USB 3.1 Gen2 devices, we wondered how fast the four SSD2 Pro PKT drives would go if striped (RAID 0).

GRAPH LEGEND
SSD2Go PKT = Angelbird SSD2go PKT 512GB Ultra portable USB 3.1 Gen2 SSD
SSD2Go PKT*2 = TWO Angelbird SSD2go PKT 512GB Ultra portable USB 3.1 Gen2 SSDs in a RAID 0 set (striped)
SSD2Go PKT*4 = FOUR Angelbird SSD2go PKT 512GB Ultra portable USB 3.1 Gen2 SSDs in a RAID 0 set (striped)

In each configuration, the SSD2go PKTs were connected to the USB-C ports of the 'late 2015' MacBook Pro 15-inch laptop.

LARGE SEQUENTIAL
We used AJA System Test to benchmark file level sequential transfer speed using a 4GB test file (and 4K frame size).

HIGHER number in megabytes per second = FASTEST

small random
Quickbench's Standard Test includes random transfer test sizes from 4 KBytes to 1024 KBytes. The graph shows an average of 5 test cycles. Not as impressive as large sequential transfers, but reveals performance you can expect from the OS as it does housekeeping and certain applications which perform small random transfers.

What Did We Learn?
At 2 ounces and 2.76x1.79x.37 inches, the
SSD2go PKT makes an ideal companion for the laptop user needing small, fast, bus-powered, auxiliary storage when on the road. And with four USB-C ports on the 'late 2016' MacBook Pro, you can connect up to four of them simultaneously striped or not.

Key features include native TRIM support, X-ray & magnetic proof, ESD and overload protection, and shock, dust, splash water, and temperature proofing. It's available in up to 1TB capacity and in six different colors. It comes with both a Type-A to Type-C cable and a Type-C to Type-C cable.
